Blade Runner 1982 Film
I have come to the conclusion that Deckard, The Blade Runner is himself a Replicant. a clone
This movie describes a future in which genetically manufactured beings called replicants are used for dangerous and degrading work in Earth’s “off-world colonies.” Built to be ‘more human than human’, they appear physically identical to humans although they have superior strength and agility, while lacking comparable emotional responses and empathy. Replicants became illegal on Earth after a bloody mutiny. Specialist police units– blade runners- hunt down and “retire” escaped replicants on Earth. The film primarily focuses on a particularly brutal and cunning group of replicants hiding in Los Angeles and a semi-retired blade runner, named Rick Deckard, ( Harrison Ford) who reluctantly agrees to take on one last assignment. The Replicants have come to Earth in search of a method of extending their lives, these Replicants only have a life span of 4 years. This future has enormous neon billboards, ad blimps, and soaring skyscrapers, evoking an infernal consumer society divided between those living in the clouds and the multi-cultural exploited masses living in the permanently dank and dingy streets. Blade Runner has achieved cult status. In The Director’s Cut they cut out the Snake Dance, (Bummer). It still gets 5*****Stars even without the Snake Dance.
The Island 2005 Film
What a Ride. I loved this Film. It had the feel of “Total Recall”. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson were great together. Scarlett was just gorgeous in this movie. Djimon Hounsou’s character of the Navy Seal mercenary type is very interesting. Djimon is the Blade Runner of this movie, able to be ruthless, but in the end compassionate, this is just one of the little gems in this movie that made me really enjoy it. Steve Buscemi, what can you say, Steve Buscemi is Steve Buscemi, Never a bad performance, Ever. The only complaint I have with the movie is the very final scene, Ewan and Scarlett on the boat. I felt that there should have been some close ups of the couple finally able to get away, it left me with sort of an empty feeling. The entire movie was building up to that final scene, and to give it such a short shrift, well it just did not make any sense. But I enjoyed the rest of the movie so much that I am prepared to overlook the short comings of the last scene. I give it 5 ***** Stars.
